The British besieged it three times, took them three efforts to finally break through Ottoman lines between Egypt and Palestine. And there were many areas of the Middle East which were completely devastated during World War I. Other areas, as I said, suffered from famine and various other horrible things, as well as massacre, genocide, and so forth.
