And so the Middle East becomes increasingly important, and Saudi Arabia becomes increasingly important to the United States. And this is already clear during World War II. Immediately after the war, the United States starts planning the building of a pipeline from Saudi Arabia, crossing the northern part of the Kingdom, crossing Jordan and Syria, and terminating in Lebanon.
